Until recently, Marsa Alam was just a small fishing village in southern Egypt.
Since the opening of Marsa Alam airport in 2001, Egypt’s southern most
resort has rapidly increased in popularity and will continue to grow. At
present, it is still underdeveloped compared to more established resorts
such as Sharm el Sheikh
or Hurghada so its an
ideal destination for those in search of a peaceful holiday.
Getting There & Around
The resort is served by Marsa Alam airport which is about 20-40 minutes
to the north (depending on your hotel). There are fewer flights than
into Hurghada International a further 2 hours north. Flight connections
to Cairo are available from
both Marsa Alam and Hurghada airports. Once in the resort, the hotels
are self contained so there is no need to get around except on
excursions where transport is usually included.
Weather
This year round resort although further south than the Sinai, a year
round sea-breeze means it is slightly cooler in the high summer. The
average daily temperatures in Celcius:

Who it suits
The area is primarily popular with divers who come of the relatively
quiet dive sites compared to those around Sharm
el Sheikh and Hurghada.
It is also the perfect place to relax in one of the self-contained
hotels.
