The coastal town of El Quseir is located around 120 miles south of Hurghada
and 45 miles north of Marsa
Alam airport. Quseir dates back to the times of the Pharaohs when it
was a trading port with other ports along the East African coast. Later
in Roman times, trade routes to Asia were developed and Indian pottery
has been discovered in the area. El Quseir is also a traditional
embarkation point for Muslim pilgrims on the Hajj (pilgrimage to the
holy sites of Mecca and Medina). Modern day Quseir is relatively
untouched by tourism although there are a few shops and cafes and the
old fort which dates back to 1571 is worth a visit.
Getting There & Around
Tourism is this part of Egypt
is still relatively limited and consequently, there are not too many
travel options. Most of the UK package holidays to El Quseir use flights
from the UK in Marsa Alam
airport which is around 45 miles to the south. Another option is to fly
into Hurghada which is
about 120 miles to the north. From either of these airports, your
transfer can take the coast road to your hotel.
Weather

Who it suits
El Quseir is one of the more remote tourist destinations in Egypt.
The hotels are generally self contained so its ideal for people who want
peace and quiet as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Na’ama
Bay. A number of excursions are available for those who want to get
out and see a bit of Egypt.
For those who want to see a city untouched by tourism, an excursion to
Shalateen and the Camel Market is recommended. Here, you can see
thousands of camels traded between Egyptians and Sudanese.
