There are around 50 dive sites accessible by the day boats departing
Abydos Marina in El Gouna.
Most sites are between 1 and 2 hours away offering a range of dive sites
from shallow coral gardens to wall dives. El
Gouna is also ideally positioned to access some of the finest wrecks
in the Red Sea. Abu Nahas is just over 1 hour away and the Thistlegorm
can be reached in 2.5 hours.
Shaab Um Gamar
Heading south from El Gouna
towards Hurghada, you
will find one of the nicest dive sites in the area – Shaab Um Gamar.
Shaab Um Gamar is a long isolated reef formed by an underwater mountain.
At it’s South Eastern side is a very steep plateau where many species of
pelagic hunt for smaller fish. On the western side of Shaab Um Gamar,
there is another plateau full of small caves and overhangs.
Abu Nahas
The ‘ship graveyard’ of Abu Nahas has a number of wrecks of ships around
100m in length. The depth of the wrecks range from 5-28m but due to
their location, they can only be dived if weather conditions allow.
There is an abundance of coral and schooling fish around the wrecks.
